May 18, 2015ROCK HILL, S.C. – ( April 30, 2015 ) – There’s no doubt that the fountain at the City of Rock Hill’s new Fountain Park is drawing a lot of attention and photographers. The fountain, located at the park’s E. Main St. side, features a 90 ft. x 70 ft. modified quatrefoil pool that encompasses 144 jets and 137 500-watt lights.
With variable configurations throughout the hour, a water show begins shortly before the top of each hour that builds up to a center jet burst that goes nearly 110 feet on days when the wind is light.
Comporium is holding a photography contest sanctioned by the City of Rock Hill highlighting the fountain and Fountain Park. Third place will earn $100; second place will win $250; and the first place winner will receive a new iPad and $100. The grand prize will also feature the winning photo on the cover of the next York County directory that will be distributed at the end of August. The other photos will be found in the information pages section at the front of the directory.
“We feel that the fountain is becoming a popular drawing card for people to visit,” said Comporium’s Matt Dosch, executive vice president of customer operations and external affairs. “It only opened in early December, but as the weather is getting nicer, the visitors are checking it out. We’ve noticed prom-goers, student groups, tourists and even marriage proposals taking place. People are taking a lot of photos so we thought that this gives them an opportunity to share some of the best ones.”
The fountain has 24 jets on a 65-foot radius which arches up and into the middle. A 40-foot spray with 96 nozzles also arches up an into the middle; a six-foot spray ring with 16 nozzles goes vertical before the center nozzle fires at the top of the hour. Of course, a variety of configurations takes place throughout the day. Eight of the nozzles can be controlled by visitors at the fountain through the Fountain Park website which is www.FountainParkRockHill.com.
