BREVARD, N.C. – August 1, 2019 – Broadband customers in Comporium’s Transylvania County service area are now able to get even faster download speeds. Comporium will wrap up a system-wide upgrade at the end of July that will enable any address in the county that is served by the company’s cable system to have access to internet download speeds of up to 750 Mbps.

Comporium began the final phase of the multi-year upgrade project in 2018. This phase was focused on upgrading core network equipment throughout the county and upgrading cable facilities in the area of Transylvania County west of Rosman, including Lake Toxaway. Comporium’s Standard High-Speed Internet package now provides download speeds of 250 Mbps. This is approximately 200 times faster than what the company could offer ten years ago. In the meantime, customers who upgrade to the Elite package can download data at 750 Mbps, speeds that are typically not available outside of a major urban area.

“We want our customers to have a world-class experience when using our products and services and completing this upgrade makes that a reality,” stated Shelia Carland, general manager and city executive for Comporium’s Brevard operations. “Over the past ten years we’ve ensured that, from a communications perspective, customers here in Transylvania County can get the same high-quality services that they would find in larger cities like Asheville, Charlotte, or Raleigh.”

Carland stated that over the past three years most of the county’s residents saw dramatic improvement in the internet speeds they could obtain. Comporium is currently working to expand services to several additional areas and will continue to assess and improve the network for all of its customers as they are able. The company has no plans of stopping its investment in its customers’ broadband experience.
