Comporium Upgrades Broadband Services in Transylvania County
August 1, 2019Comporium Celebrates 125 Years of Service to Customers
December 8, 2019LANCASTER, S.C. – August 1, 2019 – Internet customers in Comporium’s Kershaw and Heath Springs service area are now able to get even faster download speeds. Comporium will wrap up a system upgrade in early August that will enable approximately 2,500 customers served by the company’s cable system in that area to have access to internet download speeds of up to 750 Mbps.
Comporium began the upgrade in 2018 and the project was focused on upgrading core network equipment throughout the area and upgrading cable facilities. State-of-the-art network equipment was installed, allowing for increases in network reliability and broadband speeds. The recently completed construction phase of the upgrade represents a $1.2 million investment by Comporium. The company has a few details to finalize before customers will have access to the new speeds but expects those to be done in the next couple of weeks.
“Our goal in projects like this is to improve the customer experience. We are constantly assessing our network to find the best ways to strategically improve its performance and reliability,” stated Comporium’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Dosch. “Comporium’s mission today remains the same as when the company was founded almost 125 years ago… to bring modern communications technologies to people living in areas that larger, national companies refuse to serve.”
Soon customers living in the upgraded areas of Kershaw and Heath Springs will have access to download speeds that are significantly faster than the national average. Comporium’s Standard High-Speed Internet package provides download speeds of 250 Mbps. Meanwhile, customers who upgrade to the company’s higher speed packages can download data at 750 Mbps, speeds that are typically not available outside of a major urban area.
Dosch also stated that Comporium doesn’t plan to stop here. The company will continue to make improvements in its service offerings. In the coming months, Comporium plans to expand services along McIlwain Rd. in Heath Springs. They are also working on plans for additional network improvements and expansions throughout Lancaster and Kershaw counties. By investing in upgrading its facilities and adding more fiberoptic cable throughout its broadband network, Comporium plans to ensure that it is ahead of the competition in increasing its customers speeds.
