February 5, 2015ROCK HILL, S.C. – ( January 16, 2015 ) – The community coat drive, known as “Winter Warm-Up,” is going well, but the needs are great, according to Comporium, which is using its retail store locations as collection sites.
“We are extremely pleased with the community’s response to this coat drive,” said Comporium’s Matthew Dosch, executive vice president of customer operations and external affairs. “Throughout York and Lancaster counties; plus, at our operation in Brevard; we have received nearly 400 coats at the mid-point of our campaign. However, with two weeks to go, the daily low temperatures are projected to be in the 20’s and 30’s.”
Comporium has been working with United Way to help distribute the coats quickly after they are dropped off due to the cold weather. The company also purchased dozens of new coats to supplement the collections and contacted United Way, which then helped to distribute the coats to Pilgrim’s Inn and The York County Warming Center. It also plans to work with P.A.T.H. in York, The ROC (Renew Our Community), The Haven, and the Fort Mill Care Center.
United Way of Lancaster County will work with the local chapter of the America Red Cross to distribute donated coats in that area.
“Overall, we have more than 500 coats that are being distributed locally to people in need,” said Dosch. “We weren’t sure we’d even get 100, but it’s obvious that we have a lot of caring citizens in our area, and it’s a humbling and comforting feeling to see how generous people are.
“I want to applaud Sam’s Club in Rock Hill for supporting ‘Winter Warm-up’ by discounting their coats,” Dosch added. “We depleted their supply, so they made a financial contribution, which is above and beyond. Long’s Cleaners has agreed to clean the pre-owned clothing at no charge before the items are distributed, which is greatly appreciated.”
Both new and gently used coats will be accepted at Comporium’s retail locations; as well as, at the CN2 TV news station in downtown Rock Hill through January 31.
