May 18, 2016FORT MILL, S.C. – (May 16, 2016) – The Town of Fort Mill and Comporium announced today an agreement for the sale and purchase of two tracts of land and the associated buildings on Tom Hall Street in Fort Mill.
“The timing of Comporium’s consolidation of operations and the Town’s need for office expansion started a conversation,” said Mayor Guynn Savage. “Fortunately, that conversation resulted in a great win-win. Comporium’s deep history of support for the community continues, and the Town avoids the larger cost of construction by repurposing a building in the center of the Town.”
The tracts are identified as 200 and 210 Tom Hall Street. The agreement allows Comporium to lease a small portion of the building that houses equipment needed to serve its customers. Comporium will donate an additional half acre in lieu of continued operation of a cell tower on the property. Following a 90-day due diligence period, the Town hopes to close on the property later this year.
“We are pleased that this transfer of ownership would go to help local government and help the community,” said
Comporium’s Matthew Dosch, executive vice president of customer operations and external affairs. “The talks with Fort Mill’s officials have gone very smoothly. We will relocate our employees to our offices in downtown Rock Hill, and are seeking space in a new high visibility location that would complement a retail modernization strategy.”
According to Fort Mill Town Manager Dennis Pieper, “the town has outgrown the current Town Hall and Police Department. This purchase provides us with the much needed office and parking space at a lower cost and in a great location. In addition, we will now be able to better serve our utility customers by offering drive up windows for payments.”
“Comporium continues to commit significant resources to the Fort Mill/Tega Cay area,” Dosch added. “We are moving the Highway 160 store in Fort Mill across the street into a new outparcel in Stonecrest next to Wal-Mart and locating an outside sales group in the existing building around Labor Day.
