March 9, 2017Fort Mill, S.C. – (March 1, 2017) – The Fort Mill School District’s newly constructed athletic complex will now be known as the Comporium Athletic Park, thanks to a multi-year sponsorship provided by Comporium. The community is invited to Comporium Athletic Park’s official ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm.
The Comporium Athletic Park, located at the Fort Mill Bypass and Spratt Street intersection, stands as an inviting gateway and is symbolic of the importance the school district and Comporium collectively places on recreation for its community’s youth. The Comporium Athletic Park is slated to attract additional State, Regional, and National Tournaments that will in turn support the local economy.
The Comporium Athletic Park features four state-of-the-art, synthetic turf fields, which will accommodate heavy use of multiple sports, including soccer, lacrosse and football games. The four tournament-ready fields are considered “all-weather,” meaning the fields’ surfaces are designed to allow play even after the heaviest rain. The full-service athletic park also includes a dedicated concession building and restrooms. This facility will be utilized by Fort Mill Schools, as well as the community for athletic events, and construction was made possible by joint funding from the school district and a grant from the York County Hospitality Tax.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Dosch, said, “Comporium is always looking for new ways to partner with other local organizations to invest in the communities we serve. Comporium Athletic Park is just one of the ways that we’re partnering with the Fort Mill School District. Comporium Athletic Park not only creates opportunities for the youth of Fort Mill, but it also enhances York County’s reputation as a sports tourism destination.”
The Comporium Athletic Park is located less than 10 minutes from Cherry Park and Manchester Meadows and less than five minutes from the sports venues at Riverwalk located adjacent to the Catawba River, just over the bridge from Rock Hill into Fort Mill.
“The fields at Comporium Athletic Park are part of a system that will include 11 fields by the end of this August that rival any other venue in the area,” said Joe Romenick, director of facilities services for the Fort Mill School District. “Not only does having these four fields allow us to offer a world-class tournament venue, but by combining the Comporium Athletic Park fields with the fields across the district, we’ll be able to attract larger tournaments from across the state, the region, and even the nation.”
The Fort Mill School District has estimated that the facility will bring more than 75,000 tourists during its first three years of use. With access to dozens of nearby hotels and hundreds of restaurants, the park is expected to generate nearly $8.5 million in revenue for the local economy during that same time-period.
Games are already scheduled and will begin in early March. Rental and event inquiries, including individual field sponsorship opportunities, can be directed to Tamara Osborne, Fort Mill School District’s rental facilitator, [email protected].
