FORT MILL, S.C. – ( November 06, 2014 ) – Habitat for Humanity of York County announced today that it is teaming with Comporium and a group of its employees who are members of a community service organization known as the Comporium Pioneer Club to make exterior repairs on four homes in the Paradise neighborhood.

The Fort Mill Town Council has repeatedly attempted to obtain grants to revitalize the low to moderate income area that comprises numerous homeowners in need of home repair assistance. Funding, however, is being directed to improve the infrastructure and is unavailable for individual residences. 

“Many of these homeowners just do not have the resources to make the needed fixes and without assistance, the issues begin to magnify and even become a matter of safety,” said Executive Director Tim Veeck. “Thankfully, Comporium and volunteers with its Pioneer Club have stepped up and plan on Nov. 7 and 8 to lend a helping hand.”

Veeck said the exterior repairs range from power washing and deck repair to more complex projects that include building a handicap ramp and roofing. Through an application process for its Home Preservation program, Habitat partnered with three homeowners on Joe Louis Street and one on Steele Street for the repair work, which the organization will oversee.

“We have a lot of skilled and caring folks at Comporium who can fix siding, replace windows and restore decks,” said Shaun Barnes, manager of economic and community development at Comporium. “They prove time and again that they want to do more than just live and work here, they want to give back to the community.”
