NATIONAL CABLE TELEVISION COOPERATIVE AND VIACOM REACH DEAL TO RENEW CARRIAGE AGREEMENT

May 28, 2014ROCK HILL, S.C. – ( May 12, 2014 ) – Comporium will announce tonight that it has delivered checks totaling $300,000 toward the Textile Corridor’s infrastructure improvements. Comporium Executive Vice President Matthew Dosch appeared in front of the City Council members to recognize the funding with a ceremonial “giant” check.
Telecommunication companies like Comporium can earn an infrastructure tax credit by investing in public economic development projects instead of paying certain licensing taxes to the S.C. Department of Revenue.
Comporium’s funds will assist with upgrades to the water lines on Laurel Street, some road improvements near the Bleachery area, and the eventual replacement of the City’s Laurelwood water tower near downtown. The City considers the development to be part of its larger plan to develop “Knowledge Park,” which encompasses what is known as the “bleachery” in the former textile corridor.
Because the infrastructure tax credit simply defers taxes that Comporium would have paid directly to the state, it has no effect on its customers’ rates.
“Comporium is pleased that utilities in South Carolina are allowed to target local economic development projects rather than simply paying the Utility License Tax,” said Dosch. “We believe that this is an excellent use of these funds for the benefit of the local community and its citizens.”
The City of Rock Hill has budgeted more than $8 million for the water system and roadway upgrades to support development throughout Knowledge Park.
