February 23, 2015ROCK HILL, S.C. – ( February 18, 2015 ) – Comporium expands it’s portfolio, today announcing that it has launched PEQ (pronounced “peek”), a home automation system, which is available now at four of Comporium’s retail locations in York and Lancaster counties. With this announcement, the best-in-class smart home platform is now offered to consumers to purchase and use right out of the box.
Starting at $119.99, a consumer can purchase the self-installed PEQ system, which enables them to self-manage their home through any Internet-connected device like their laptop or smartphone. Comporium will provide the PEQ starter kit and an array of optional sensors and devices at the following stores: 1739 Cherry Road and 739 Galleria Blvd. in Rock Hill; 2386 Hwy.160 West in Fort Mill; and, 969 SC-9-Bypass West in Lancaster.
“This is an exciting option for many consumers who want to upgrade their residences to advanced connected home technology,” said Matthew Dosch, executive vice president of customer operations and external affairs at Comporium. “With PEQ, the devices are state-of-the-art and allow homeowners to monitor their properties themselves. They can even set up alerts (sent via text or email) that will notify them of what’s happening at home and create rules for their home, like having the lights on when you get home at night.”
Comporium points out that PEQ, which was developed by SmartHome Ventures, is designed to be installed by the customer who can easily do it without professional assistance.
“The PEQ system is a little different than our existing ReadyHome service,” said Dosch. “ReadyHome is professionally installed and is supported by our UL-approved 24×7 Central Monitoring Station. We realized that some people don’t feel like a live agent monitored ReadyHome service is a fit for them and can monitor their homes themselves. With optional cameras, they can keep an eye on their home with photos and live video feeds, even when the house is dark.”
Dosch noted that the software platform that supports ReadyHome, however, is the same for the PEQ system. In addition to self-monitored security, PEQ also provides home automation and energy management features. Customers can add a smart thermostat, a lamp module with dimmer and an appliance module, for example.
The consumer pays for all equipment at the point of sale and owns it; Comporium does not offer a monthly lease plan. A low monthly subscription of $9.99 for PEQ is required. This monthly fee pays for the alerts, email notifications and overall functionality of PEQ’s platform.
