ROCK HILL, S.C. – (August 25, 2017) Imagine an online resource that students from middle school through graduate school can use to learn more about careers related to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Imagine that resource has the tools needed to connect high school students with colleges and universities in ways that go beyond the traditional test score and GPA route. Imagine that resource can connect those same students with leading businesses in and around their community and even help them to secure career opportunities before they complete their education. That is exactly what STEM Premier does for students, for educational institutions, and for companies across the Unites States. York Technical College is becoming one of the latest institutions to partner with STEM Premier and that partnership is going to make all those possibilities a reality for its students.
The first online resource tailored to connecting students, educators, and businesses in STEM-related fields, STEM Premier utilizes a platform similar to LinkedIn. Students can create profiles, at no charge, and gain insight into career options, education choices, and both local and national businesses that would be a good fit for their goals. Likewise, recruiters and hiring managers for schools and businesses can search the potential talent pool of students and actively recruit based on student profiles. Through this platform, companies have a competitive edge when recruiting talented individuals, students are better educated and have more career options than ever before, and colleges and universities are better positioned to educate and assist their students.
“STEM Premier is thrilled to partner with York Technical College to ensure their students have access to the best opportunities in the region as well as helping to connect those students with great employers like Comporium so they can put their YTC degrees to use,” stated Casey Welch, co-founder and chief operating officer for STEM premier. “We’re pleased to meet with students at the Club and Organization Cook out and help everyone get off to a great start to the school year.”
Realizing the value this brings to students and businesses in the tri-county area, Comporium and York Tech are working together to create more excitement among the college’s students about utilizing STEM Premier’s services. To promote the partnership, Comporium is funding a one-time scholarship to be awarded to one student that has signed up with STEM Premier.
“Whether it’s through our broadband service or telephone service, Comporium’s purpose is to connect people,” stated Comporium’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Dosch. “When you couple that with the dozens of our employees who are York Tech alumni, the partnership between STEM Premier and York Tech was a natural combination for us to promote. The impact this partnership will have on our local talent pool is tremendous.”
York Technical College has been serving the residents of York, Lancaster, and Chester Counties since it was founded in 1964. During the last 53 years, the College has prepared students for both technical careers and for seeking more advanced degrees. Like many of South Carolina’s Technical and Comprehensive Education System institutes, York Tech offers a high concentration of STEM-related programs to its more than 7,200 students. The partnership with STEM Premier is another tool that the College will employ to help their students succeed in reaching their goals.
Representatives from STEM Premier are going to be on campus from 11am – 2pm during York Tech’s August 30th back to class Club and Organization Cookout. During the event on the main campus, students will have the chance to ask questions about the services STEM Premier offers and sign up to create a profile.
SC Future Makers will also have representatives attending the cookout. With the goal of connecting South Carolina’s advanced manufacturers and technology-based businesses with students, SC Future Makers aims to keep students in South Carolina. By educating students about potential careers within South Carolina, SC Future Makers hopes to retain talent and position South Carolina for future economic development.
In addition to providing the scholarship for one York Tech student that signs up with STEM Premier, Comporium plans to have human resources representatives at the cookout to discuss career possibilities at the company.
