517 Homes and Businesses in Transylvania County Gain Access to Fiber Internet

Brevard, N.C. – March 26, 2026 – More than 500 homes and businesses in Transylvania County now have access to Comporium’s fiber-based internet service. The company installed approximately 64 miles of fiber over the past several months to reach 517 locations, expanding access to reliable, high-speed connectivity across the county. Customers in these areas can now access internet speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps), supporting work, education, healthcare, and entertainment needs while improving overall quality of life.

This project, totaling more than $4.7 million, was funded through a combination of Comporium’s private investment and state-issued GREAT grants. These grants are funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and administered by the North Carolina Department of Information Technology. Comporium also partnered with Transylvania County, which provided local support to help advance the project.

“We believe access to advanced technology is essential for strong communities,” said Comporium’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Shaun Barnes. “This investment in fiber infrastructure allows us to deliver reliable, high-speed connectivity that supports economic growth and improves everyday life across Transylvania County.”

The company remains committed to working with state, local, and federal partners to expand and enhance broadband access across the region.
