What is the State Universal Service Charge?

The “State Universal Service Charge” (SUSC), authorized by the South Carolina Public Service Commission, is not part of your local service rate. The SUSC supports the South Carolina Universal Service Fund programs including support for low-income residents who want basic telephone service. Most telecommunications service providers in the state contribute to the South Carolina Universal Service Fund. The fund helps keep basic local telephone service rates affordable for everyone in the state.  The PSC has authorized telecom providers to recover their universal service contributions through a customer charge.
