Is Comporium's Digital upgrade the same as the FCC DTV Transition?
No. Separate from the nationwide FCC over-the-air digital television transition, Comporium is in the process of upgrading our analog Basic Plus level of service in order to free up capacity so we can add many new, highly requested channels, more interactivity, plus more HD channels. If all of your television sets are connected to Comporium, you don't need to do anything regarding the FCC DTV Transition. We will continue to provide you with the same analog broadcast signal you enjoy today on your existing TV set.

Why are you making this change?
A 100% Digital signal delivers a clearer picture, improved audio, and the ability to offer additional programming. You'll gain many new, highly requested channels and more interactivity, plus more HD channels than ever before.

Will I need a Digital converter box for Basic Service (chs. 2-21)?
No. All TV's (Analog and Digital) connected directly to cable, will continue to receive the Basic level of service (chs. 2-21).

How will this change affect my viewing of Basic Plus Service (chs. 22-61)?

Customers without a Digital TV (QAM Tuner):
First, if you do not already have a Digital converter box from Comporium, you will need to obtain the first one free of charge to continue to enjoy your Basic Plus service uninterrupted. If you already have a Digital converter box, you don't need to do anything! However, if you have more than one television in your home, it will be necessary for each television to have a Digital converter box from Comporium.

Customers with a Digital TV (QAM Tuner):
If you have a Digital Television (QAM Tuner built-in), you may not need a Digital converter box to continue to enjoy Basic Plus service uninterrupted. However, the channel numbers will be different than those connected to a Digital converter box. If you have more than one television in your home, it will be necessary for each television to either be connected to a Digital converter box from Comporium or be a Digital TV with a QAM Tuner.

Can I connect a Digital converter box to a Digital TV?
Yes. You can connect a Digital converter box from Comporium to any Cable Ready TV.

What are the benefits of having a Digital Converter Box?
A standard converter box not only allows an analog TV to show digital channels, it also includes the following features:
  • Interactive Program Guide
  • Access to Pay-Per-View Movies and Events
  • Universal Remote Control
  • Caller ID on TV (requires Caller ID from Comporium)
  • Parental Controls
How much will the Digital converter box cost?
If you do not already have at least one Digital converter box, you will receive your first one at no charge as long as you subscribe to Basic Plus service. Additional Digital converter box rental fees as of 9/16/08 are as follows:
  • Standard Digital box - $4.95/mo
  • HD Digital box - $6.95/mo (requires HD Package)
  • DVR Digital box - $12.95/mo (requires DVR Service)
  • HD/DVR Digital box - $12.95/mo (requires HD/DVR Service)
How do I know if I already have a Digital TV (DTV) with a QAM Tuner?
Many Digital television sets have labels that say "Integrated Digital QAM Tuner," "Digital QAM Tuner Built-In," or "ATSC Digital Tuner with QAM modulation," "DTV," "DCR," or "HDTV" (High-Definition Television). Please refer to your TV manual to confirm it has a QAM tuner.

Can I test my TV prior to the upgrade to see if it has a QAM Tuner?
Yes. Connect the cable from the wall or floor directly to the TV. Perform an auto-channel program or auto channel search on your TV. After the search is complete, tune to channel 66.10. If you can view the test screen on channel 66.10, then you have a QAM Tuner and will not need a Digital Converter Box to receive Basic Plus.

How can I program my Digital TV for the Basic and Basic Plus channels?
If your TV is not connected to a Digital converter box from Comporium, the easiest way to get the new channels is to perform an auto-channel program or auto channel search on your TV. Please refer to your TV manual for instructions. While this procedure varies by manufacturer, this option should be available in the TV menu.

What about HD?
After the upgrade is completed in your area, HDTV Digital Service customers will enjoy close to 30 HD channels immediately. (An HD or HD/ DVR converter box and HD-capable TV are required to receive HDTV Digital Service.)

Will this change affect my DVR recordings?
It will affect shows/seasons that were scheduled prior to the upgrade if the channel number has changed for that scheduled recording. You will need to erase the scheduled recording and re-schedule it via the interactive program guide using the updated channel lineup. This change will not affect previously recorded shows in your DVR list.
