Transylvania County has a school system that consistently ranks in the top ten public school systems of North Carolina, and is home to three local colleges.Though education is top notch, taxes remain at a low 7% for sales tax, 4% occupancy tax, and the state of NC does not charge property tax. Sliding Rock is one of the most popular attractions for visitors and locals alike. What better way to cool down than to slide down a 60ft. expanse of water-smoothed granite before tumbling 10ft. down into the chilly waters of the stream! Sliding Rock is a short drive from yet another beautiful scenic view, Looking Glass Falls. A walkway off of Hwy 276 will lead visitors to a magnificent overlook, offering a view of this cascade as it drops 60ft. into the rocky gorge. A broad stairway leads to the foot of the falls where you can stand in the light mist created by the tumbling water and enjoy views of the falls and the sparkling mountain stream.
